What's Happening This Week in Space: August 16th 2021

A space exhibit, night sky and solar observing, and shows at the Planetarium are all happening this week in space.

To the Moon: Snoopy Soars With NASA Exhibit, Elmhurst History Museum, T-Sun 1-5pm

This touring exhibit was put together by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing. Snoopy, and the Peanuts characters, played an important role in the Apollo program and NASA culture ever since. Exhibit info here: Elmhurst Museum

Naperville Riverwalk Public Stargazing, Naperville Riverwalk, Thurs August 19, dusk-11pm

Meet members of the Naperville Astronomical Association at the Dandelion Fountain for the chance to view planets in our Solar System through club telescopes. Event info here: NAA Calendar

Astronomy in the Parks, Across Chicago Park District Parks, August 19-21st, 7-9:30 pm

The Chicago Astronomer will be out in the parks three nights this week to take residents on a tour of the night sky. Evenings start with an astro chat and end with the chance to view objects in the night sky through telescopes set up in the park. This weeks events include Northerly Island on Thursday, August 19th, 606 Bloomingdale Trail (1805 N. Ridgeway Ave- Western Trailhead) on Friday, August 20th, and Harrison Park on Sat. August 21st. Adler Summer Sky Shows, Adler Planetarium, August 21st & 22nd, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:15 pm, and 1:15 pm

Naperville Sun Viewing, Naperville Riverwalk, Saturday August 21, 9am-noon

Use this opportunity to take a look at something different in the sky- the Sun. Members of the Naperville Astronomical Association will set up solar scopes for guests to view the surface of the sun in all its glory. Event info here: NAA Calendar

U.S. Navy Blue Angels, Lakefront from Oak Street Beach to Fullerton Beach, August 21st & 22nd, 12-1 pm

The City of Chicago is hosting a slimmed down version of the popular Chicago Air and Water Show this weekend with demonstration flights by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. In years past the Angels have been joined by aviation teams from around the country, and even NASA has set up exhibit booths, as well as a water show featuring aquatic stunts and demonstrations.
